The scholarship application for the 2019-2020 academic year is now closed. The 2020-2021 application will open in fall 2019.

The John Palmer Communication Award
The Department of Communication and its esteemed Advisory Council honor the incredible legacy and commitment to the future of the communication field by establishing The John Palmer Communication Award. John, a longtime NBC White House Correspondent as well as an NBC Today Show anchor, was a founding member of the Council.

This legacy award will support opportunities for College of Charleston Communication students to continue their education beyond the classroom and engage in real-world learning experiences. Experiential learning was a passion of John’s, and he was instrumental in helping and inspiring a number of our students and faculty both as a visitor to campus, and as a frequent and friendly host (in Washington, DC) to visitors from the College of Charleston.

John’s daughters Molly and Hope majored in Communication and graduated from College of Charleston.

Gifts to this award would support opportunities such as:

  • Creation and placement in high-level internships within the communication fields, both locally, nationally, and internationally
  • Study abroad opportunities and other international learning experiences
  • Participation and presentations at professional conferences
  • Faculty-student collaborative research projects
  • College or department-sponsored networking trips (e.g. annual Advisory Council/department-sponsored Spring Break trip, etc.)

Lindner Internship Award

The Department of Communication is proud to offer the Lindner Internship Award. S. Craig and Frances Lindner established this award and 4 scholarships in honor of their daughter, Christine, a 2012 graduate of the Communication program.

This award is available to support students majoring in communication who would like to pursue an internship opportunity (preference will be given to those going outside of the state of South Carolina for that internship). Students must have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher and be willing to maintain a blog or create a web portfolio to report back on their experience. Internships can be for credit or non-credit bearing, but must be focused in communication.

The award is up to $5,000, depending on availability. Decisions will be made within 2 weeks of the application deadline.

The spring application deadline has now passed.
