Jenifer Kopfman
Associate Professor | Associate Dean
Dr. Jenifer Kopfman has been at the College of Charleston since 2007. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in research methods and health communication, among other topics.
Dr. Kopfman served as the fourth chair of the Department of Communication from 2015-2021. She was appointed Associate Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences in 2021.
Before joining the College of Charleston faculty, Dr. Kopfman worked most recently as Health Education Specialist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta. Prior to her work at CDC, Kopfman was on the faculty at Cleveland State University, where she served as assistant chair of the communication department. She also has taught at the University of Arizona and the University of Toledo.
Kopfman earned her bachelor's degree at Miami University in Ohio and her master's and doctoral degrees at Michigan State University. She has published articles in such outlets as the Journal of Health Communication, Communication Research Reports, Health Communication, the Journal of Applied Communication Research, and Communication Studies. She has presented over 25 papers at regional, national, and international communication conventions and has won several research awards, including the Outstanding Dissertation Award of the Speech Communication Association and the International Communication Association.
